The IN Power Yoga Community
Our Community
More Than a Yoga Studio — A Space to Grow Together
At IN Power Yoga KC, community is at the heart of everything we do. Our Overland Park yoga studio is a welcoming, judgment-free space where real people move, breathe, connect, and grow together.

What Community Means at IN Power
- Belonging over perfection. You don’t have to be “good at yoga” to belong here.
- Respectful & encouraging. You choose your intensity—no pressure, no judgment.
- Strong and supported. We lift each other up—on the mat and in life.
- Service-minded. We show up for Kansas City through donation classes and partnerships.

Ways to connect
Come as you are
We’ll welcome you at the desk and walk you through the details: check-in, where to head next, and how to settle in for class.
Workshops & Series
Go deeper with focused sessions (mobility, breathwork, yin, strength). You’ll leave with practical tools you can use anywhere.
Circles & Meetups
Small, supportive gatherings to connect beyond the pose. Think: new-to-yoga circles, book clubs, seasonal intention setting.
Challenges & Community Goals
Gentle accountability with zero shame—just encouragement, stickers, and high-fives.

Giving back (KC ♥)
We believe practice extends off the mat. Throughout the year we host:
- Donation-based classes benefiting local nonprofits
- Drives & fundraisers (school supplies, winter gear, etc.)
- Pop-up classes with community partners

Humans of IN Power Yoga KC
Belonging over perfection. Here’s how practice is showing up in real life—at home, at work, and everywhere in between.
Meet the students whose experiences reflect the strength, healing, connection, and growth happening throughout the IN Power community.

Meet Joey! 🌟
This incredible human has been flipping our world upside down (literally) for 4 amazing years at IPY! “When I first started my yoga practice, I approached it solely from the physical aspect.
Over the last 5 years, I have started to internalize all the lessons each teacher gives and focus more on the mental aspect of yoga and the moving meditation. I live my life by the phrase “begin again,” and I love knowing I can always take a breath and change something about my life or my practice.
I did yoga on and off through high school and college but started Baptiste yoga at Yellow Brick Yoga in Lawrence in January of 2020. I grew up doing gymnastics and diving, and I missed having an activity that could challenge me in that way. I had no idea what I was signing up for, but I kept coming back week after week after my first class at YBY.
Once I graduated from KU in 2021 and moved back to KC, Candy invited me to try a class at IN Power since she taught at both YBY and IN Power. From my very first class at IN Power, I instantly fell in love with the community and knew that I found my new home studio. 💛

Student Sunlight on our sweet Emma!
Emma brings such thoughtful energy to our practice, and she also tends to an incredible garden with busy bees that produce the most amazing fresh honey! 🐝 We’re honored to carry her honey at the studio ✨
“Yoga reminds me to pause and allow myself time to reconnect with what my body, my mind and my heart needs to feel revitalized, stronger and a deeper peace to carry throughout the day.
I often catch myself holding my breath during balancing sequences. I try to remember then to smile, fall if needed and not take it so seriously that I quit breathing.
When my oldest son was 19, he died by suicide. Over the years, I’ve had to learn how to carry this pain with me while still finding ways to thrive. Grief is a never ending journey that is certainly not linear. Like my yoga practice, I show up and allow myself to carry my grief while trying to consider what my body, mind and heart needs. Some days I can soar. Other times, I need some extra gentle patience and love. Yoga is a practice and carrying grief through life takes practice and patience, as well.
‘And now?’ I am prone to be extra hard on myself… anyone else partake in self-shaming? We all know one pose or one side might look different than it did yesterday or even five minutes ago. I like to ask myself, ‘And now’ when I’m practicing yoga or just getting through trickier situations to remind myself to find a lighter approach without expectations and disappointment. Enjoy the gentle approach of just allowing whatever comes next to unfold without the need for disappointment or shame. Life is full of beauty… and hurts… and the hardest lesson thus far in life for me has been learning that those two realities can and do coexist.”
We’re so grateful to have you in our community, Emma! To many more years of flowing together 🙏

ONE YEAR OF ALLISON
Her practice has grown from a self-care outlet into a grounding space where she feels stronger, more present, and connected to herself and to a supportive community.
“I was looking for a way to slow down and reconnect with myself. I found INPower through my now husband, who had surprised me with a class a year prior, and instantly felt at home with the energy and intention of the space.
Now my practice is about “being a yes” for growth, for truth, and for others. I’m learning to push my edge and love myself through it. As Baron says, yoga is a way to “show up, step up, and speak up”, and that’s become my why.” 🧘🏻♀️☀️
Allison only hopes to keep deepening her connection to breath and presence, staying open to what her body and mind need in each moment.
She’s excited to embrace new challenges and begin exploring more inversions — and we can’t wait to see it 💛

Kierra - Finding Strength in Stillness
What started as a simple New Year’s resolution to try new things quickly became a life-changing journey. After meeting the incredible team at IN Power Yoga and experiencing how powerful yoga can be, I was hooked. I’ve never felt more connected to myself than I do now.
As a singer-songwriter, I love all things creative and expressive. Most of my time is spent with my pets, but when I’m not with them, I love to travel, get out in nature, discover new restaurants, and have deep conversations about life.
My favorite yoga pose is Mountain. Finding grounding has always been something I’ve struggled with, and this pose makes me feel strong, safe, and powerful. Through yoga, I’ve gained so much patience—allowing myself to grow at my own pace instead of looking for quick fixes. It’s helped me slow down, breathe, and give myself grace both on and off the mat.
My heroes are my parents. Their unwavering love and support, not just for me but for everyone they care about, inspire me every day. Despite life’s challenges, they’ve always made sure I felt seen and cared for. I can only hope to show that same love and strength if I become a parent one day. 💛

Ryan - Side by Side, On and Off the Mat
Ryan first stepped onto his yoga mat looking for a way to maintain strength and flexibility — but he quickly discovered something far more impactful. Yoga became his anchor.
As a business owner and father of three active kids, Ryan moves through long, demanding days. Yoga gives him a dedicated space to slow down, reset, and show up as his best self. His practice has shaped not only his physical strength, but his mindset and the way he navigates challenges in both his personal and professional life.
Eagle and Tree pose stand out as favorites because they meet him differently every day — sometimes steady, sometimes humbling — always offering a new way to grow.
One of Ryan’s favorite parts of his yoga journey is sharing it with his wife, Laura, who found her own path to yoga after a knee injury. Supporting each other’s practice has become a meaningful part of their relationship, and yoga has woven itself into the rhythm of their very active family life.
Ryan credits the teachers at IN Power Yoga for helping him deepen his practice and keep showing up — for himself, for his family, and for the community he’s proud to be part of. 💛

Laura - Side by Side, On and Off the Mat
Laura has always enjoyed staying active, but everything shifted after a tennis injury left her recovering from knee surgery. Getting back into movement was difficult — until Ryan encouraged her to try a class at IN Power Yoga. One class became many, and yoga quickly became a life-changing part of her routine.
As a working mom of three, Laura constantly balances schedules, school activities, and the everyday chaos that comes with raising a family. Yoga gives her space to breathe, reset, and reconnect with herself. She often finds the breathwork she practices on the mat carrying her through real-life parenting moments with more calm and clarity.
A standout memory in her yoga journey was climbing the Manitou Incline in Colorado — 2,744 steps at nearly 9,000 feet. The only thing that kept her going was the mantra she’d heard so many times in class: “I can do hard things.” She reached the top.
Extended Side Angle and Boat pose are her current favorites — one for the way it opens her body, and the other for showing her strength growing each time she practices.
Yoga has become something Laura and Ryan share — a grounding practice they each rely on in different ways, and an experience that strengthens their family life. She’s grateful for the community at IN Power Yoga and everything the practice continues to bring into her world. 💛

Clare - From Marathon Miles to Power Yoga Magic
Clare found yoga back in 2010 while training for marathons, using Bikram to stay injury-free. But everything shifted a few years later when she walked into a Baptiste studio and discovered a practice that felt like home — community, inquiry, and a space to grow on and off the mat.
Now living in Kansas City, working in Family & Integrative Medicine, and raising a sweet 3-year-old (with another little one arriving any day!), yoga has become the place she returns to when life gets full.
Her favorite pose? Triangle — the stretch her body always asks for.
“The messages in class always seem to be exactly what I needed that day,” she says. “Yoga helps me stay present and clear when things get stressful. And always — return to the breath.”
Her hero is her mom — still practicing Bikram at nearly 71 — who balanced a medical career, raised three kids, cooked dinner nightly, and somehow still made time for creativity. “I’m certain she’s superwoman.”
We’re so grateful to have you in our community, Clare. Thank you for bringing your heart, dedication, and presence to the practice. 💛

Melanie - Reclaiming Calm and Confidence Through Yoga
Melanie has been practicing yoga on and off for more than 20 years, but something shifted when she rediscovered vinyasa during the pandemic. After years of running, DVD flows, and YouTube classes, she stepped into IN Power in January 2023 — looking for connection and stability — and found much more than she expected.
Originally from Colorado, she’s lived all over the world — Morocco, Spain, Sweden, and more — and is now a solo parent to an amazing 12-year-old. When she’s not practicing, she loves reading, watching movies, and exploring new places with her daughter.
Her favorite pose? Half Moon — grounding, balancing, and just the right mix of relaxing and challenging.
“My yoga practice helped me heal a dysregulated nervous system, ease a chronic cough, and find the strength to leave an unhealthy relationship. It reminds me to try new things, stay when it gets hard, and breathe.”
Her hero is her daughter — “resilient, brave, always willing to try new things.” The inspiration behind her growth, her courage, and the daily reminder to keep showing up.
We’re so grateful to flow with you, Melanie. Your journey is powerful, and your presence lights up the space. 💛

Ellen - Trusting the Breath, Taking Flight
Ellen first tried yoga about three years ago after a friend invited her to class. That first class was very challenging, and she truly thought she wouldn’t return — but something about it stayed with her. Each time she came back, she felt the benefits more deeply, and before long, she found herself craving the practice.
Someone who values balance, growth, and connection, Ellen loves learning new things, staying active, and finding small moments of joy in everyday life.
Her favorite pose is Crow. It reminds her that strength and balance come from trust — trusting herself, her breath, and the moment. Each time she lifts her feet off the mat, she’s reminded she’s capable of more than she thinks.
Through yoga, Ellen has gained strength, balance, and patience, but the deeper transformation has been the sense of community. “Everyone always makes me feel welcome, never judged, and free to be my authentic self.”
Her hero is her mom, who has faced several illnesses with strength and grace while maintaining an incredible outlook on life. Her resilience, positivity, and ability to find joy even in difficult moments inspire Ellen every day.
We’re so grateful to have you in the IN Power Yoga community, Ellen. Thank you for showing up with strength, heart, and authenticity — on and off the mat. 💛

Chris - From Wake-Up Call to Daily Practice
Chris didn’t always see himself as someone who would practice yoga consistently. In fact, staying committed to any exercise routine had been a challenge for most of his adult life. He even tried yoga once about 15 years ago—but it didn’t stick. Hot yoga had always intrigued him, but it remained one of those “maybe someday” ideas. Then came a major turning point.
In late 2018, Chris was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AFib). The diagnosis drained his energy and ultimately led to corrective surgery. It was a wake-up call—one that shifted how he viewed his health and the role he wanted movement to play in his life.
Living nearby, he had driven past the studio countless times without stepping inside. Finally, he decided to take a leap outside his comfort zone.
That leap changed everything.
What started as a step toward better health became something much deeper—a daily practice, a grounding routine, and a meaningful community. Today, Chris describes himself as incredibly grateful for both the practice and the people who make it what it is.
A Kansas City native (Grandview High School, UMKC), Chris has traveled widely but has always called this area home. He and his wife, Tabatha, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this fall. They love gathering with family—including three nieces and two nephews—and catching Royals games throughout the summer.
Professionally, Chris has spent 35 years working as a software engineer, architect, and leader at TreviPay, a local FinTech company. But on the mat, titles fade away. What matters is the breath, the balance, and the presence he’s cultivated over time.
His favorite pose? Half Moon. He loves the combination of balance, inversion, and opening—and how it feels just a little different every single practice.
The transformation has been powerful.
On the mat, Chris went from minimal exercise to wondering, “Why couldn’t I practice every day?”
Off the mat, the changes may be even greater. He carries more tools into daily life, navigates stress with greater calm, and meets challenges with breath and mindfulness.
When asked who he admires most, Chris doesn’t hesitate: caregivers, nurses, and social workers. The quiet dedication of those serving in healthcare has earned his deep respect.
For Chris, yoga began as a health decision. It became a lifestyle shift. And now, it’s simply part of who he is.
What began as a health decision for Chris has grown into a meaningful, consistent practice that supports his life far beyond the mat. We’re grateful to share this space with you, Chris. Thank you for being part of what makes this community so special. 💛

Jerry - Turning Energy into Practice
For Jerry, yoga started long before most people discover it. At just 12 years old, he began practicing yoga as a way to train for ice hockey—and he was hooked immediately. What began as a physical training tool quickly revealed something deeper. Yoga offered both movement and mindfulness, a way to work the body while calming the mind. Then came a major turning point.
Over the years, that balance has become especially meaningful.
Jerry describes yoga as one of the best ways he’s found to quiet his ADHD mind while also releasing the energy that helps him show up fully for the day, the week, and whatever life brings next.
Off the mat, Jerry’s work is deeply meaningful and often demanding. For more than 20 years, he has run a business dedicated to helping people with Alzheimer’s receive the best possible care in small home settings. Supporting families through that journey requires compassion, resilience, and constant problem-solving.
That’s one reason the yoga community means so much to him.
Being surrounded by people who share the goal of getting just 1% better every day helps keep him grounded. And as he gets older, Jerry sees yoga as an incredibly powerful tool for staying strong, functional, and adaptable.
Because, as he puts it, yoga isn’t something to conquer.
It’s a practice that meets us exactly where we are on any given day.
On the mat, Jerry has a special appreciation for Eagle Pose. After spending nearly 15 years working to fully wrap his legs, the pose now feels both satisfying and rewarding. In fact, he admits he sneaks in eagle legs whenever possible—even while sitting in meetings—simply because he can.
The transformation yoga has brought into Jerry’s life goes far beyond poses.
For years he saw ADHD as something to manage. Now, he sees it as a strength. Yoga helped him channel that fast-moving energy into focus, discipline, and a practice that has supported him for decades.
As Jerry jokes, Paris Hilton once said that people with ADHD have a special kind of power—and after years on the mat, he’s convinced she might be right.
When it comes to heroes, Jerry looks close to home.
His yoga hero is Roseanne, who has led early morning 6 a.m. classes for nearly a decade. Those challenging sessions—and the small group that shows up for them—have become a highlight of Jerry’s week.
She pushes the class, supports the community, and shows up with dedication week after week—even while balancing the demands of family life.
For Jerry, those early mornings are hard.
But they’re also one of the best parts of his practice.
Thank you Jerry, for being in community. 💛

Pam - Finding Healing & Strength
I was first introduced to hot yoga in 2013 after becoming an empty nester and experiencing the tragic loss of my spouse. At the time, I was looking for a new workout, but I discovered so much more.
Yoga became a beautiful moving meditation that helped open my heart to healing and new possibilities. It connected me to a loving community and gave me a safe place to practice, begin again, and simply be. Over time, it became clear that yoga was a gift I wanted to share, which led me to become a teacher. When I’m not in the studio, I love traveling to see family, grandkids, and friends.
Thank you Pam, you bring so much joy to the studio. 💛

Matt – Showing Up for Life, One Practice at a Time
For Matt, yoga is one of the few things in life that can truly meet him wherever he is on any given day. Whether he needs challenge, focus, or simply space to reset, the practice always offers exactly what he needs in the moment.
Although he has practiced yoga for more than 20 years, it’s within the last two that his practice has become a more consistent part of his daily life. As a finance professional, husband, and father of two teenagers, yoga helps him slow down mentally while also supporting the active hobbies he enjoys outside the studio, including weightlifting and golf.
An early morning yogi by nature, Matt especially enjoys balancing poses that require concentration and presence. Crow pose remains one of his favorites because of the focus and steady attention it demands.
One of the most meaningful parts of yoga for Matt is sharing the practice with his wife, Lindsay, another dedicated IN Power yogi and instructor. Together, yoga has become part of the rhythm of their family life and a way to continue growing both individually and together.
When asked who inspires him most, Matt immediately points to his parents. As his own children grow older, he finds himself appreciating even more the guidance, support, and example they gave him throughout life.
For Matt, yoga is a reminder that growth often happens quietly — simply by continuing to show up.
We’re so grateful to have you in the IN Power community, Matt. Thank you for bringing your steady presence, quiet strength, and dedication to the practice each time you step onto the mat. 💛

Lindsay – Showing Up for Life, One Practice at a Time
Movement and wellness have always been part of Lindsay’s life. Inspired by her parents — a yoga teacher mother and runner father — she built a lifelong connection to fitness, eventually teaching group fitness, Pilates, and yoga over the last 25 years.
While she was initially drawn to the physical side of yoga, over time the emotional and mental support of the practice became just as important.
Married to fellow IN Power yogi Matt and raising two teenage sons together, Lindsay balances family life alongside teaching part-time, volunteering at a food pantry, and caring for three energetic bulldogs.
Her favorite poses reflect the grounding and release she finds through yoga. Lindsay especially loves pigeon pose for the emotional release it provides, along with forward folds that help create a full mental and physical reset.
In recent years, yoga became something even deeper as Lindsay navigated tremendous grief after losing her brother, mother, and father during 2021 and 2022. Through those difficult seasons, yoga became a steady place to process emotion, reconnect with herself, and continue moving forward one breath at a time.
She also credits Matt as one of her greatest sources of support, describing him as the steady presence who helped guide her through some of life’s hardest moments. Practicing together at IN Power Yoga has strengthened both their connection and their shared love of the practice.
One quote shared during class recently deeply resonated with Lindsay:
“Let the light within you shine, even if that light is a small flicker, it’s still there.” – Stephanie – Team IN Power
For Lindsay, yoga is about continuing to show up for yourself — even on the days when your light feels dim.
We’re so grateful to have you in the IN Power community, Lindsay. Thank you for sharing your resilience, warmth, and light with both the practice and everyone around you. 💛

Elizabeth - Stronger on and Off the Mat
Sometimes the best journeys begin with a simple connection. For Elizabeth, it all started with a Facebook post about her sister, Susan, opening IN Power Yoga. That moment sparked a curiosity that eventually became a meaningful yoga practice.
Today, yoga is an important part of Elizabeth’s life because it allows her to stay active while continuing to help others. She says her practice prepares her mentally and physically for whatever life brings, and the longer she’s been on the mat, the more she appreciates not only what yoga does for her, but also the incredible community she’s found along the way.
One class that has become especially meaningful is Bare Bones. Elizabeth loves how the class slows things down and creates space to focus on the foundations of movement. It’s a reminder that sometimes the simplest poses—and the time spent truly exploring them—can have the biggest impact.
When asked to choose a favorite pose, Elizabeth admits it wasn’t easy. She ultimately picked Deep Squat, saying it opens her hips and feels even better the longer she stays with it.
Yoga has transformed Elizabeth both mentally and physically, helping her become the best version of herself.
She also credits two of IN Power Yoga’s teachers, Stephanie and Tracy, as her yoga heroes. Their resilience, strength, and commitment to serving others continue to inspire her both on and off the mat.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for being part of the IN Power community. Your story is a beautiful reminder that growth often begins with a single step—and that returning to the basics can be one of the most powerful parts of the journey.
